Dear Sir or Madam,

I was looking at your Online ordering site www.Icelandair.com

Why is it more expensive to fly just to Keflavik airport then to fly to London on the same day (June 10th) taking the same flight (FI614)?

687 US$ to London

1068 US$ to Keflavik. SAME FLIGHT!

Please explain. Maybe you prefer us to fly to London.

Og hér kemur svarið og haldið ykkur nú fast:

Thank you for your message to Icelandair,

Airfares are governed by the flag carrier of the country to which you are traveling to. Published fares that we offer to the UK can only match the published fares offered by British Airways. We can match fares to Germany that are offered by Lufthansa.

Sale fares offered to the UK by British Airways are often very low and in order to be competitive we can match these fares. However, airfares are also affected by the standard of living in each country. The standard of living in Iceland is high and therefore the fares to Iceland (as well as the other Nordic countries) tend to be higher than fares to other destinations that are further away. Basically, the distance one must fly is not usually the deciding factor with regards to fares.

Helvíti magnað svar og nú spyr ég finnst ykkur þetta eðlilegt? svar óskast á ats1971@mi.is.
